House rules

In order to make the stay for our lodgers at the residency as simple and comfortable as possible, we introduce the house rules in the following note, which we expect all our guests to follow.
The artist house is furnished for 2-4 artists or artist couples that will be assigned a (work) studio when getting accommodated at the residency. There is a dormitory with 4 extra beds for workshops.

Smoking
Smoking is strictly forbidden in all indoor areas, including the workshops.

Dormitories
The dormitories are set for the enlisted artists. Visiting guests at our facilities are not allowed without a preceding agreement. The residents must clean the dormitories minimum once a week, and they have to air the rooms every day.

Workshops
In consultation with the manageress, every artist can be assigned for a workshop.

Music and night’s rest
It is anticipated that there will be quiet after 10 p.m. and that the residents will give consideration to each other and use earplugs when listening to music in the dormitories and the workshops.

Common areas
All other areas beside the dormitories are common, and therefore everybody is responsible to keep them in good repair. It is anticipated that the residents spend at least three hours every week on house cleaning and maintenance of the common areas. This implies anything from lawn mowing to window cleaning -any task to keepthe place pleasant for you ;-).

Everybody is allowed to use the common areas. There will typically/optional be a meeting every Monday where it will be arranged who’s going to use the respective rooms during the week. If someone wants to use the rooms for other certain events, it will also be arranged at the Monday Meetings. We aim to have a joint dinner once a month. The dinner typical get prepared together.

Kitchen
Everyone is welcome to use the kitchen facilities as long as they carefully clean up after themselves. By this implied, that the kitchen table, the cooker and all used utensils and services must be cleaned immediately after use by the user.

The residents must provide their own grocery shopping, including buying washing-up liquid and similar items (spices, oil, flour etc.).

The use of kitchen tools must be handled with great caution. However, if anything breaks the residents will be responsible to replace the item and inform the manageress about it.

At the artist house there is a vegetable/herb garden, which everyone is more than welcome to nurse and use.

Bathrooms
Please clean everything carefully after use. The bath always needs a good airing. The residents must buy their own toilet paper, cleaning materials etc.

Workshops
The residents can work in the workshops everyday until 10 p.m. after which time there has to be quiet. After 10 p.m. it is only allowed to do activities that don’t make noise or can be disturbing.

The workshops must be cleaned once a week. Every evening, all the tools that the residents have been allowed to use and have used must be put back at their rightful places.

It is not allowed to take any tools or materials without a preceding agreement. Materials that belong to the artist house must be settled up on a list to that purpose. Tools deposited by the artist house must be handled with great caution, and blades and other replaceable items must be replaced if damaged or lost.

If any machines and other inventory break or disappear the residents will be responsible to replace them immediately. Extra high consumption of electricity will be cleared separately (kiln, electrical machines with extra high power consumption).

Bicycles and other borrowed stuff

Lent bicycles (deposit 40 Euro) must be handled carefully, and bicycle tubes and other replaceable items must be replaced by damage or loss. The bicycles must be maintained which involves that the borrower oil the bicycle and washes it when it gets dirty.

Of course, all items borrowed for the artist house involve maintaining.

The history of the house

The house is built around 1900, and besides being fit for habitation it also had space for a minor group of animals. In the area of about 10000 m2 crops were planted to make the place self-sufficient.

Until 2006 different owners have led the house fall into disrepair. In 2009 we took over the house and started a long renovation of the house, which is almost finished by now. It has cost sweat, tears, hard work and a lot of money to make the house habitable for the artists. Therefore, we would like to stress the importance of the maintaining of the house, and that everyone help taking care of it so that it also in the future will be able to house a lot of artists and guests.
