Bojan Otasevic (RS)
Text written by GHA
Serbian artist Bojan Otasevic creates expressive, color-intensive algraphic prints. His works are close-ups of portraits rendered in bold colors that contrast sharply with their monochrome backgrounds. Each image explores the complexity of a single facial expression.
Set against a flat, monotonous background, the figures are removed from any context within the image, emphasizing their emotional state. This further underscores their isolation from their surroundings and transforms each facial expression into a solitary presence. The use of contrasting colors heightens the emotional tension in his works, which is further intensified by the deliberate use of light and shadow. Although the figures rarely look directly at the viewer, their gazes are penetrating and powerful, somewhere between confrontational and dismissive.
Otasevic’s works present themselves as a study of human emotions and their forms of expression, revealing both vulnerability and strength. His portraits appeal to human empathy, demanding the viewer’s attention and inviting them to explore feelings of discomfort and curiosity.
