Daria Lavrova is a Dutch artist who works with colourful, multi-layered linocuts depicting abandoned industrial sites. She focuses exclusively on the architectural aspects of the scenes, creating compositions inspired by the deserted construction sites.

By working with semi-transparent layers of colour, Lavrova succeeds in transforming the linocut technique and bringing it closer to the characteristics of watercolour painting. The thin layers with slightly uneven colour gradients are superimposed so that the colours blend visually, creating numerous nuanced effects. The combination of complementary colours lends the images a liveliness and gives the prints an almost painterly quality.

The cold metal structures and vast empty spaces are illuminated by sunlight streaming through the metal beams. The attention to light creates a calm and peaceful atmosphere and lends a feeling of warmth to these otherwise bleak places. Lavrova’s prints invite the viewer to recognise the beauty of these simple spaces, which are used only for transport and storage in industrial areas and are rarely accessible to visitors.
