Karolina Zimna-Stelmaszewska is a Polish artist working with marbled aquatint through depictions of celestial objects and outer space. Large star-like spheres and distant heavenly bodies are depicted in an extra terrestrial view in black and white.

The marbled patterns created through the technique become a soft, almost fluffy element next to the deep black background. When implemented in the spheres, the texture makes them appear tactile and almost three dimensional in juxtaposition to the mapping of orbits and star constellations in crisp white lines. The tactility in the large scale prints makes the viewer almost want to enter the space and try to grab the objects.

The mapping of space can easily be associated with the ancient science of astronomy and can be understood as an exploration of space, adding a science fiction quality to the prints. The extraterrestrial perspective in the prints allows the viewer to travel beyond perception and to investigate the world that the artist has created.
