Kristina Karnilaviciute (LT)
Text written by GHA
Lithuanian artist Kristina Karnilaviciute creates delicate aquatint etchings depicting anthropomorphic figures in surreal scenes. Her images retain a certain gentleness thanks to their fine lines and monochrome color palette. The contrast between the detailed motifs and the almost monotonous backgrounds also creates a space that appears calm yet full of emotion.
Female figures interwoven with nature are depicted in maternal and caring roles. Birds, fish, insects, and green plants are part of the representations that nourish the world around them and symbolize the relationship between humans and nature. The delicate depictions emphasize the physical and emotional fragility of femininity and address both personal and universal experiences.
Karnilaviciute’s images convey a sense of the interconnectedness of all living things and remind us that everything needs care and nurturing. The natural elements are not only decorative, but invite reflection. The idea that all aspects of life and nature are deeply interwoven and interdependent is illustrated and symbolized in an appealing visual language.
