Using primarily aquatint, young Slovakian artist Sarah Horná creates atmospheric images with detailed yet minimalist motifs in muted, earthy colors. Her use of delicate lines highlights the gnarled elements of nature depicted, which are placed in desolate landscapes as the protagonists of her imagery.

With a central compositional focus, a sense of infinity is evoked, reinforcing the restrained, sensitive undertones of the works. Nature’s organic forms seem to strive upward, their movement restrained, as if caught in a silent conflict with the static void that surrounds them. Here, nature is not only the motif but also a representative of introspection. The vast landscape reflects feelings of infinity, loneliness, and longing, and the inner turmoil is conveyed through an apparent underlying tension, suggesting that space is not only a physical entity. The organic forms of nature seem to stretch upward, their movement restrained, as if caught in a silent conflict with the static void that surrounds them.

In Hornás’s works, the landscape becomes a mirror of the inner self, exploring the deep connection between human experience and nature. There is an emotional resonance in the tension between the organic forms and the vast emptiness that surrounds them, inviting the viewer to pause, reflect, and turn inward. In her works, nature is embodied as a space for contemplation, presenting the works as an introspective experience.
