Thomas Løj Christensen is a Danish artist working with vibrant silkscreen prints in stylised stencil shapes depicting human figures. He uses symbolism to portray human relations and themes such as mortality and introspection.

The figures are depicted in opaque contrasting colours and emerge from the negative spaces of the solid-coloured backgrounds. The striking boldness of the limited palette and Løj Christensen’s way of working with stylised shapes has a strong connection to Pop Art. It also conveys an immediacy that draws the focus to the presented protagonists. The figures are interacting or seem to be related to each other, embracing or standing in the other’s shadow.. His prints also hint at the relationship to one self through the displaced and mirrored images of a single person, conveying a sense of contemplation.

The images have a metaphorical quality to them and can be read as depictions of loneliness, mortality and love. By working with potent symbols like skulls and silhouettes of figures cut out of the background, Løj Christensen draws the imagination to the fragility of life and enduring nature of human relationships. The recurring forms of expression such as tenderness and introspection act as reminders of the importance of human relationships.
