German artist Andrea Streit creates tempera paintings on linen that focus on understated scenes of everyday urban life. Her works draw attention to simple moments that are easily overlooked: figures moving, waiting, or passing by, often viewed from a slightly elevated perspective and placed within carefully constructed spaces.

The figures remain anonymous and yet feel familiar. They are quiet protagonists of daily routine; anyone and everyone at the same time. Their presence emerges less through individual facial features than through small, observed gestures and the way they position themselves within the space. Streit’s painterly approach is precise and deliberate. The backgrounds are monochrome and dominated by cool tones. Against this calm field, the colours of clothing and objects stand out, creating subtle but clear contrasts. Nothing dramatic occurs, and yet the scenes feel complete.

The works capture moments that usually slip past in everyday life and invite us to look more slowly. Through this quiet, unembellished observation, she creates images that are calm, direct, and easy to return to — works that resonate precisely because of their simplicity and honesty.
