The soft colour palette, consisting mainly of pink and blue shades, lends her works a hypnotic and spiritual atmosphere, seemingly transporting the viewer into a world of mysticism.  The female protagonists convey a sense of calm and serenity as they move between reality and fantasy. The portrayed youthful characters seem to be awakening from a dream, or perhaps even stuck in one, which is emphasised by their calm facial expressions and the soft light surrounding them, which creates an ethereal atmosphere.

 A defining aspect of these works are the strange and fantastical creatures and objects seen in the background that lend a surreal quality to the compositions.  The simplicity of the composition effortlessly leads the viewer into a meditative state. By surrendering to the gentle nuances of her work, the viewer is encouraged to lose themselves in their own subconscious and surrender to a state of contemplation. Ambjerg’s almost surrealistic works are sure to inspire reflection and self-recognition, especially for a younger audience.
