Florence Jalice (FR)
Text written by GHA
Florence Jalice’s lino prints explore the relationship between colour, form and texture. Using carefully selected colour tones, she creates vibrant, energetic seascapes.
Although her works are small, they are eye-catching and allow the viewer to feel the fresh air of an early cool morning. In her minimalist works, Jalice uses monochrome shapes and patterns to create calm compositions in a simple style. Her prints have a recognisable and familiar character, even though they contain few specific details. It is as if the images blur slightly, leaving only the essential shapes and colours visible, almost like the memory of a landscape in which certain details fade but the overall picture remains clear.
In her compositions, Jalice focuses on capturing the atmosphere and emotion of a landscape rather than its precise details. As a result, her linocuts will evoke a different perception in each viewer: Some will see an impressionistic quality, while others will view them like undeveloped film stills that hint at a scene without fully revealing it. By capturing the essence of nature in a simple yet effective way, the works invite quiet contemplation. Each work invites the viewer to slow down and savour the beauty of nature in its stillness and clarity.
