Text written by GHA

Her portraits captivate with their dramatic use of color and contrast. The protagonists are often captured in cool tones and stand out against a deep, almost black background.

The artist’s use of light and shadow is precise and deliberate, conveying an expression of gloom and intensity in the stillness. The dynamic interplay of colours and contrasts underlines the urgency of her protagonists to be recognised.A clear colour palette concentrates on the portrayed figure, making it the central element of the picture.
The composition is kept simple.

The realistic depiction of the figure’s pose is tense, but the intensity of the colour tones suggests a slight movement to be expected. The figures are depicted in a state of bewilderment.  From their facial expressions, a feeling of astonishment can be deduced, which seems to merge into a state of sadness or melancholy. The viewer is seduced into reading a narrative from the facial expression. An intimate connection can develop between the viewer and the person depicted, both of whom become an integral part of the narrative.
