Hans Meyer Petersen (DK)
Hans Meyer Petersen born 1937 Copenhagen. Started painting and drawing at the age of eleven and exhibited at the experimental gallery Montmartre on Dyrehavsbakken, north of Copenhagen, at the age of eighteen.
After graduating from high school in 1956, he travelled frequently to Paris, where he came into contact with the abstract/surrealist movement PHASES, founded in 1951 by the writer Edouard Jaguer together with former members of COBRA and Le Mouvement Surrealiste.
HMP participates in PHASES activities since 1957 and settles in Paris in 1959.
After signing a contract with Galerie Bellechasse on Boulevard St. Germain des Pres, he moved to the countryside in 1961, to the village of Verdelot, 70 kilometres east of Paris, where he had many good working years with time and peace to develop the kind of art he still exposes, while the gallery took care of the practicalities.
In 1966 he returned to Denmark, but maintained his connections in France.
