His lively portraits on paper balance between expressive formal language and abstraction, supported by the use of bright colors and indistinct contours. The mixed media drawings show superimposed layers of color and textures that imply movement in the snapshot of the captured faces.

The depicted shapes are blurred, contours are undefined, sometimes overdrawn. The use of color seems arbitrary, but brings liveliness to the calm.  Brushstrokes as well as structures and layers of material are engaging for the viewer. The artistic style of the works is characterized by the dynamic integration of color and line, creating an unfinished and rudimentary appearance that seems refreshing.

Henrik Sandner (DK)

The primary thematic focus of his works is the portrait, which is, however, kept in constant motion. The presented faces appear in different perspectives, with some motifs showing signs of deformation.  It seems as if Sander wants to capture an elusive phenomenon, to convey states of mind or soul and capture them on paper, choosing these anonymous figures as visual representations of emotions, troubled minds or desolation.
