Jenni Viita (FI)
Viita’s lithography combines the classical representation of the female body with floral ornaments. She portrays figurative and detailed naked figures, in the midst of abstract plant motifs.
The use of the female young bodies in Vita’s works is highlighted as the main subject of the works, reminiscent of nude studies. The postures and the realistic approach are following the academic rules of representation, with vertical axis, realistic perspective and shading. This classic structure of the bodies are interrupted by the floral backgrounds which almost embrace the figure, adapting their petals based on its shape. In this way, a mystic movement is created, as the forms of nature, such as petals and leafs are following the feminine shape.
Jenni Viita (FI)
The selection of floral motifs are deeply symbolic with the feminine materiality and nature, as the archetype of fertility, youth, beauty, grace and fragility. The above elements are inexplicably connected with the symbol of female nature and how it was represented in art for many centuries. Vita reconstitutes this archetype of beauty in today’s viewer’s eye, questioning the female body and its ideal classical image and associations with the past.
