RALF HEYNEN (NL)

Ralf Heynen’s paintings depict mysterious women. He incorporates unusual objects and symbols into his artworks and transforms them into seemingly everyday objects that we carry with us.

His works are characterized by light, tonality and a distinctive brushstroke. The broad color palette he uses often includes only the female figures, while he keeps the background simple so as not to distract the viewer from the profound meaning of the image. He keeps his compositions, often portraits, very clear and focuses on the main figure in the center of the painting, paying great attention to the details of each element.

Ralf Heynen

He often shows women in a state of reflection and contemplation, casually carrying weapons over their shoulders as if they were ordinary shopping bags. In this unusual context, the weapons appear harmless rather than symbolizing war. The canvas enters into an interesting dialog with the presence of weapons and everyday objects.
The women depicted in contemplative poses do not make direct contact with the viewer. This approach  allows the audience to experience a unique personal feeling just by looking at his remarkable artworks. The artist often portrays his subjects with realistic features in an idealized setting.
