Søren Bjælde (DK)
Text written by GHA

Danish artist Søren Bjælde gets his inspiration from experiences in everyday life and his own memories, something he seeks to capture in his graphic works. He mainly works with woodcut but does also engage in the areas of drawing, painting, ceramics and book illustrations.

His works are playful often depicting mundane situations with energy and vibrancy. He achieves this in his distortion and sometimes his energetic colour palette. In Bjælde’s work you can find traces of art brut and street art. The stories he tells are recognizable to everyone, and will leave the viewer with a smile on their face.

Bjælde is artistically interested in the colorful, the ornamental, the entertaining and the horrifying. The ideas for this he gets for instance from comic strips, illustrations in medieval handwriting, church art and art from other cultures and parts of the world.
