Vivia Wisperwind (DE)
Text written by GHA
The oil paintings depict individual calm and serene female figures immersed in water. Partially obscured by light, the scene captures the balance of movement and stillness underwater, evoking introspection and escape, enhanced by soft blue tones.
Her works are characterised by soft brushstrokes that emphasise the movement of the water and create almost abstract patterns on its surface.
She combines the bright colours of the sun’s reflection with intense blues and even greens when depicting the unfathomable depths of the water. The figures she depicts clearly enjoy these moments of tranquillity and seclusion it seems. The interplay between the movement of the human body and the dynamics of the water is perfectly captured. Seemingly unobserved, the work has the effect of reminding the viewer of their own experiences of tranquillity and their enjoyment; both the movement of the water and the inherent stillness of nature are soothing. The choice of colours is very thoughtful with the muted blues representing the calm and peacefulness of nature. Far away here is the pressure of city life to escape and nature brings us back home – to ourselves
