Amani Moussa’s minimalist, charming drawings resemble an abstract interpretation of a city map. The monochrome drawings in light pink ink and fine but clear lines emphasize the labyrinthine details of the artwork.

Her works are kept in muted colors and are underlined by accentuated hues without a background on white paper. The watercolors emphasize abstract patterns and an inherent coherence of fine, intentional lines reminiscent of architectural blueprints or schematic diagrams. The use of ink, with its permanence and immediacy, reinforces the impression of deliberate mapping.

Amani Moussa (EG)

There is an inherent tension between the open grid and the dense, knotted sections. The visual interruptions indicate phases of condensation or distortion within the structures. There is no obvious narrative in her works. The works act as a kind of visual archaeology, inviting the viewer to explore the meaning of the fragments and their context. Her meditative works can be understood as infrastructures that illustrate how we try to organize our environment and ourselves within it.
