Czechs wall objects combine traditional lace, reminiscent of historical table decorations, as a background for a black, figurative silhouette. The monochrome works with white crocheted lace have a touch of reminiscence and nostalgia.

Traditional needlework as a backdrop for a work of art allows wistful family memories to emerge and fade. The round and elongated shapes form an almost neutral background for the black figures, which are often depicted in averted positions. These works appear introverted and the viewer becomes an observer without interacting directly with the work.

The material used is reminiscent of everyday objects from historical households, table runners and blankets that were often only used by grandmothers when guests were expected. Czech’s artistic explorations are an interesting angle through which to question changing tastes and the significance we attach to things.  He explores the subjective experience of memory and its dubiousness when filtered through personal perception and different cultural backgrounds.
