Franziska Schiratzki (CH)
Swiss artist Franziska Schiratzki’s etchings focus on natural structure, with a particular interest in cell-like forms. At first glance, her prints can be perceived as abstract, since the relationship between colors and forms is deeply explored.
Her compositions are concentrating on bold round shapes combined with ornamental patterns. The black only meets one additional color creating a very clear shaped formation. Usually two forms, interacting with each other, when looking at the series of works these representative forms seem constantly transforming, maybe even representing the cycle of life.
These structures and their movement reminds the observer of the view through a microscope, discovering the world of a microcosm. Schiratzki captures the simplest shapes and patterns presented by nature and she is able to reiterate them within her compositions.
