Henckel’s figurative, minimalist paintings appeal to the basic needs of the human senses. In some scenes, the sounds of the animals, which can almost been heard in the otherwise quiet motifs, are almost audible. The monochrome background supports the feeling of harmony.

The artist keeps the background neutral and unadorned, leaving the emotional mood to the deliberately chosen colour scheme. By using light contours in the figurations, he lends the pictures an expression of lightness and the pastel background, and the generally muted colours evoke stillness. The minimalist visual language with only a few elements suggests an introverted snapshot and is reminiscent of a daydreaming state in which any disturbance from the outside world is excluded, suggesting vulnerability and an introspective mood.

His paintings invite the viewer into an ambiguous, introverted emotional world – one that is deeply personal and at the same time very universally comprehensible.  The works depict a state of calm and seclusion with a quiet sense of solitude. The introverted imagery deals with the longing for a state of calm, presumably in the midst of noise or chaos. Thematically, the works describe a dream-like state with few active protagonists that is open for interpretation.
