Mykhailo Drimaylo (UA)
Mykhailo Drimaylo’s colorful etchings present peculiar compositions, exploring isolation and questioning our position and interaction with our surroundings.
His works are reminiscent of illustrations for fairy tales as they are vibrant, full of content, and feature both humans and animals. His works amaze the viewer with a captivating story.
Drimaylo implements a double narrative, which enables the artist to touch upon isolation and explore our role in the world. His stories are centered around figures biking, fishing, or standing by the window. These narratives are separated from the background with either a white circular or squared frame. Outside this frame, life seems to pass peacefully and calmly.

Exploration of alienation and isolation is the major theme in Drimaylo‘s works. Almost in each art piece we can see one person separated from the outer world by a clearly defined frame. However, this does not seem to present an issue, since the colors that the artist employs are very pleasant. Besides isolation, Drimaylo investigates our relations within our society and with what surrounds us, inviting the viewer to examine these interactions in his works.
