The sculptures of Walter Libuda (DE) fuse a traditional approach with contemporary expression. The ceramic works possess a subtle tension that allows references both to current animation while at the same time reminding us of cultures long gone. There is not just one single key to understanding Libuda’s work, instead the forms suggest multiple meanings inviting us to open up, allowing the artworks to touch us.
Walter Libuda is a respected German sculptor, painter and visual artist. He has been working as an artist since the early 1970’s and lives and works in Berlin, Germany since 1985. Libuda studied art at the School of Visual Art Leipzig. His work has been shown all around the world and is part of the permanent collections at museums such as the Berlinische Galerie, The British Museum in London, Pushkin Museum in Moscow and The National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo.Libuda regularly works parallel with oil paintings, drawings and sculptures at the same time.
