Carina Jo Sivager (DK)
She experiments during the process of creating her work and thereby finds new fascinating and inspiring ways to express herself. The digital process has made it possible for Carina Jo Sivager to highlight and tone down certain elements in order to create the layers that are characteristic for her work. Carina Jo Sivager has become a representative for a new exciting tendency within the area of Danish contemporary photography, which involves the digitization in an artistic process.
For the acclaimed Danish art photographer Carina Jo Sivager, digital processing is an indispensable part of her artistic work. Her works are created in the tension between black and white and almost form an introverted dreamland, where the boundaries between fantasy and reality are blurred. The viewer is left to his or her own memories and imaginings.
Carina Jo Sivager’s photographs contain a distancing and blurred expression that almost seems as if she is trying to create a distance to her own memories. At the same time, this distance is strongly mystifying, and for this very reason, is instrumental in creating new memory images in our own mental space supported by her photographic documentation.
A faded color photograph of a past childhood sets us on a trail, and suddenly long lost memories are reawakened, and in fluid transition her works become primus motor for us to disappear into our own universe. Our memories are put to the test and emotions are challenged. In a stream of sunken treasures and unsettling thoughts, Carina Jo Sivager’s works allow us to sink into our own buried memories.
