RAQUEL ALGABA (ES)
Raquel Algaba’s drawings take inspiration from theatre and psychology. Her figures and subjects create a space between the functional and the decorative, the real and the imaginary.
The drawings of Spanish artist Raquel Algaba mirror the human mind. The unspeakable, what we can not define. The figures in the images she creates are playing hide and seek between its structures.
Just like what our mind does with images – everything seems to be blurred to begin with and suddenly collapses into small gaps or we are being presented with forms we can not recognize. In her works she questions how immaterial images operate in these processes and what role they play in human communication.

What are the mental constructions and how are they translated in terms of reality? Where does the ambiguous and intermediate space that happens in the imagination of the human being begin? I intend to investigate the deformed and disconnected images of memory, bits of the real world, facts and people, united in a frenetic synthesis of an open collaboration of difficult translation.
A poetry constructed in the virtual encounter between idea and form. My previous training in the theater field urges me to create a space between the functional and the decorative, the real and the imaginary and inspired by its techniques and its symbolic models.
