BRYCE CHISHOLM (US)
Bryce Chisholm creates graffiti, street art and pop art on canvas. Chisholm’s subjects range from children, women and animals to aeroplanes, helicopters and nostalgic propaganda. He often presents his subjects in a stylised manner.
While growing up Bryce Chisholm would make sketches and doodles in his school books. The sketches would later become graffiti and after that, they would be transferred to canvas.
Chisholm cites several reasons why graffiti is so appealing to him. Firstly, graffiti is very accessible, as it can be found anywhere on the street. Additionally, he believes that graffiti has a historical touch. He states that graffiti is very much like billboards, where street art and the time and history of buildings are exposed easily to the public eye.
Chisholm used to make street art in a style inspired by propaganda posters. Currently, the facial expressions of the figures on his artworks are often stylized in that manner.
Bryce Chisholm
The purpose of a street artist, in Chisholm’s view, is to comment and also to mock society. His unique artistic expression is created by cutting drawn details out of coated sheets of paper and applying stencils with spray paint to a colourful acrylic. The stencils add highlighted details, patterns and intrigues. His final result will then be mixed into different media backgrounds. Chisholm’s subjects range from children, women and animals to aeroplanes, helicopters and nostalgic propaganda. The colours are striking and he manages to fit murals and graffiti into powerful small-scale formats. Overall, Bryce Chisholm is able to create attention-grabbing, multi-layered art pieces in bold colours that both mock and awe society.
