Monotypes HEIKE ARNDT

written by Alanna Dongowski

These Monotypes were made using etching, aquatinta and carborundum techniques. To colorize, Heike Arndt painted the paper by hand. This results in a blurred look with dark, splotchy lines.

The images show people in costal landscapes and dining spaces – references to Heike’s life in Italy. Although the prints are rather simplistic, you can always make out certain iconic elements: Gestures of love and hospitality, good wine and fish markets defined Heike’s stay as well as this series of monotypes. Titles such as „Just so happy“ suggest that the drafts are impressions from a very pleasurable time in life. But the distant blues, broken earth tones, and patchy outlining evoke a hint of nostalgia as well. These are fleeting glimpses into a time long gone.
