HEIKE ARNDT Other technics

written by Alanna Dongowski

Heike Arndt works with experimental printing techniques, combining chine collés of handmade paper or recycled scraps in a collage-like manner. She often mixes drypoint with carbonundrum.

The time-consuming processes involved in etching force the artist to engage with every image for an extensive amount of time. Maybe this is why Heike Arndt’s drypoints and aquatintas let more serious topics come up.

She discusses violence and abuse in these works. Stick-like starved figures appear in claustrophobic spaces, bleeding black outlines holding everything together. Heike Arndt’s usual bright colours are replaced by earthy tones. Especially her monotypes and etched graphics convey a melancholic, almost grim atmosphere.
